Effect of Kessock Bridge on people and businesses.

19 June 2009

David Stewart, Highlands and Islands regional Labour MSP, is hearing first hand the effect the Kessock bridge traffic is having on people and businesses.

Following a meeting with HITRANS, the MSP is to speak with the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, as well as people living in and around North Kessock.

Mr Stewart said: "My colleagues, Peter Peacock and Rhoda Grant and I are continuing to hear from people who are travelling across the Kessock Bridge everyday.

"Their stories of traffic chaos mean that people have to regularly leave early to start work.

"It’s clear the impact that the congestion is having on their employment, so now we want to hear from businesses."

Mr Stewart added: "I am arranging to speak to the business community in and around Ross-shire.

"Their experiences will be helpful in working out if the Kessock Bridge queues are posing problems for businesses in terms of travel or even in terms of staffing."

Peter Peacock said: "We have had a great response back from people who have backed the campaign. And replies to our mailings and online petitions continue to flood in."

Rhoda Grant added: "We are still waiting to hear the details of Transerv’s study into congestion, but there is still plenty of time for Ross Shire residents to have their say on the bridge."
